Bricolage Cloth 1 & 2
Bricolage Cloth 1 & 2 were selected to be exhibited in the 2025 WA Textile Art Award.
Laneway Art Space, 6th September - 21st September 2025.
Artist Statement Bricolage Cloth 1 & 2 embody the two key themes that underpin my creative practice: lace and wear. Lace is a fabric that can be broadly understood as a pattern of holes, and wear is concerned with the idea that over time and continual use, objects become rich cartographies of lived experience. These textiles are contemporary assessments of these concepts through an assemblage of upcycled materials and many processes: screen-printing, dyeing, stitching, cutting and pressing. Specifically, lace has been explored through the application of contemporary lace motifs onto the surface of cloth and the construction of new ‘layered lace’ textiles. Meanwhile, wear has been introduced through the intentional layering of processes. All fabric comprising the new textiles is screen-printed and naturally dyed offcuts from previous projects. The unique material language of the pieces seeks to highlight the importance of material culture in the past, present and future.
