Artist Statement
This body of work results from a practice-led research project that pursues the intrigue I have for narratives embedded in cloth. Drawing on three poignant lace textiles from my ancestry, I use garments and textiles to engage with the aura of these objects. Through analogue and environmentally sound means of production, I construct garments and textiles to visually depict the lived experience and intergenerational use of these objects. Through continual engagement, objects become animated by their users, and ultimately, have complex biographies. For this, I draw on the theory of relational materiality, where connections between people and things become embedded in the object.
